WES: All UPK placements at Wilson Elementary School have been filled. A waitlist has been created for parents/guardians wishing to enroll their child in the UPK program at Wilson Elementary School.
St. Peter's UPK: There are several slots for UPK at St. Peter's Lutheran. If you are interested in registering your Preschooler at St. Peter's please complete the attached registration paperwork and bring to Jennifer Moote at Wilson Elementary School. Applications will be taken no later than 8/31/2019.
Do you have a child who will be four years old by December 1, 2019? If so, you may be interested in having your child considered for the District's free Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program for four year olds.
What is UPK?
Universal Pre-kindergarten is a developmentally appropriate, learner-centered educational program to help four year olds develop physically, socially, emotionally, linguistically, culturally, and intellectually. The program has a strong emphasis on early literacy and early numeracy aligned with the New York State Pre-K curriculum.
What are the program requirements?
UPK in a New York State grant funded program that is offered to parents free of charge. As UPK students, children are considered new entrants to the Wilson Central School District. They must attend five days a week, 180 days, 2.5 hours per day. Parents are responsible for the transportation of their children to and from UPK.
Parents must submit a note to their child's teacher upon returning from an absence. There are expectations for regular attendance and prompt arrival and dismissal. Additionally, students must meet NYS immunization and mandated health requirements.
Where is the UPK program located?
The Wilson Central School District and St. Peter Lutheran Church collaborate to provide 2 Pre-K settings for eligible students.
Is whole day program available?
No. Wilson UPK is a half day program.
Who is eligible?
Resident children who will be four years of age by December 1, 2019 are eligible to be considered for the program. A child who is age-eligible to attend kindergarten is NOT eligible for the UPK program. If you have elected to keep your child home for an extra year rather than enroll, he/she cannot attend UPK.
How are students selected for the program?
The total number of students selected each year is currently 36 (18 at Wilson Elementary location and 18 at St Peter location). A random lottery process will be used this year (to determine program placement and location). The lottery was held on June 11th. Numbers were given to each applicant and a randon number selector with multiple witnesses were present determine student placement.
