High School Special Education Teacher
ANTICIPATED VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 2026-27:
HIGH SCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NYS Teaching Certification or Pending Certification in Special Education/Students with Disabilities 7-12
- The ability to create a safe and positive environment that promotes engagement and commitment to learning
- Understanding of data management and progress monitoring
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students
POSITION SUMMARY (not inclusive): Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP and monitor student progress.
- Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Conduct assessment of student learning. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning and needs of students assigned.
- Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by IEP. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
- Work cooperatively with therapists and classroom aides to modify regular curriculum as needed and assist special education students with assignments.
- Participate in CSE meetings on a regular basis.
- Participate in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional media.
STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Provide or supervise independent living skills, social/emotional development, and interpersonal/intrapersonal communication skills as stated in IEP.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Consult district and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION: Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and communicate behavioral needs of students with administration and school counselors as necessary according to IEP.
- Consult with classroom aides and school counselors regarding management of student behavior according to IEP.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and/or facilities.
- May plan and assign the work of teacher aide(s) and oversee completion.
OTHER: Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Additional duties as assigned.
START DATE: September 2026
STATUS: Probationary, Full Time, 10 Month
SALARY: $40,000 - 44,000
BENEFITS: Fringe benefits per the WTA agreement including staff development stipend, medical + dental insurance, paid personal days and paid sick leave, membership in NY Sate retirement, ability to participate in a flexible savings plan, NY State Deferred Compensation (457b) and/or tax-sheltered annuity plan (403b).

Substitute Teacher
Substitute Teachers are needed (especially for the High School and Middle School)! Work is available on an "as needed" basis on days when school is in session to cover an absence. Substitute teachers do not need to have a current NYS teaching certificate but must be able to pass a background check through Identogo/NYSED. Competitive Pay
Certified Teachers: $130 per full day / $65 per half day
Uncertified Teachers: $110 per full day / $55 per half day

Full Day: 7:30 am - 2:30 pm
Half Day Morning: 7:30 am - 10:45 am
Half Day Afternoon: 10:45 am - 2:30 pm
Hours Elementary School
Full Day: 8:35 am - 3:35 pm

After successfully completing an interview with one of our principals, you will receive new hire paperwork and fingerprint clearance information. All substitute teaching applicants must pay for and complete fingerprinting through Identogo and receive clearance through the NYS Education Department (NYSED) prior to being recommended for approval by the Wilson Board of Education. The fee for fingerprinting is currently $102, which is set by Identogo and is subject to change.
Substitute School Nurse
Work is available on an "as needed" basis on days when school is in session to cover an absence. May work in conjunction with another school nurse. Will provide professional nursing services in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school heath records, and emergency treatment of student and employee health issues; does related work as required.
Rate of pay: $24/hour ($168 - $180/day)
Typical work hours: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Paid orientation and training provided.
Fingerprint clearance reimbursement ($102) after 5 days of service to the district.
Qualifications:
