What motivates you to want to become a school board member?

I believe the board needs someone with a vested interest on behalf of the students.  I am a father of three children, two of whom attend Wilson Elementary and one who will start kindergarten next year.  My children and my family are directly affected by decisions made by the board and I feel strongly that it is my duty to be a part of the decision-making process.

Also, since the Wilson Central School District is made up of families from the Town and Village of Wilson as well as the Town of Newfane and the Town of Porter, I feel it is important to have a representative on the board from each region.  I would be proud to represent the families of the Town of Porter.

What particular experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a board member?

I am the founder of Stand Up WCS. I have been a member of the Wilson Elementary PTA, and I have coached Wilson House League Soccer for two years.

In what school district or community activities/organizations have you been involved?

My experience with the parent group Stand Up WCS has given me the opportunity to build relationships and a good rapport with board members and administration at Wilson Central School.  While advocating for parent choice during the current school year, I have had the chance to have productive conversations with the current board president and our superintendent which have fostered a better understanding of school policies for parents.  As the spokesperson, I have voiced several concerns of the parents that have prompted action by the board in the form of resolutions asking the state for change.  I believe that my experience with Stand Up WCS has given me the tools to be an asset to the board and the Wilson Community.

Please provide a short quote or philosophy.

My philosophy would be to have each of our students be all that they can be.  Provide them with the necessary tools to be able to go out into society and become fully functional adults that benefit our community as well as be productive leaders of our world.

In doing so, we need to be financially responsible to our community, whether we are working or on a fixed income, look at the needs of our students - socially, emotionally, intellectually, and continue with improvements necessary to keep up with the fast-changing world.
