What motivates you to want to become a school board member?

I have served on the School Board for WCS since 2011 and have seen the District go through some remarkable changes during this time. I believe I can effectively continue to serve the District as a Board member, providing crucial leadership in the governance, decision-making, and collaboration facing critical decisions for Wilson Central School.  Seeing the results of the education our kids receive is the motivation to continue this effort, ensuring we are doing everything necessary to help our students succeed.  I have been supportive of our administrators, teachers, and staff in providing students with the opportunities for the best educational experience possible, while also being a trusted steward of the resources provided by taxpayers.

What particular experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a board member?

I have very strong labor management skills and an understanding of what is needed for safety and security within our District.  Currently, I am an administrator with the U.S. Department of Labor, responsible for the administration of all retaliation/discrimination claims filed by employees in NY, NJ, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This requires me to have an extensive working knowledge of labor laws impacting private and public sector employers and employees.  Additionally, I have over 30 years of law enforcement experience, which is a strong asset as a member of our District Safety and Security Committee.  Wilson Central School District has made tremendous strides in school safety and security over the last five years and, without a doubt, is one of the leading districts in the county when it comes to school safety.

In what school district or community activities/organizations have you been involved?

I have served on the Board of Education since 2011.  I have also served on the Audit, Finance, and Safety/Security Committees. Other organizations that I have been involved with include the American Legion Post in Wilson, NCCC Alumni Association, Canadian-American Law Enforcement Organization, FBI National Academy Associates, Wilson Lions Club 1987-1995, YMCA of Niagara Falls Board of Directors, Northpointe Council Board of Directors, and Niagara County Historical Society Board of Directors.

Please provide a short quote or philosophy.

As a Board member, I believe it is important to put quality administrators and staff in place, provide them with the needed resources, and allow them to succeed.  You need to trust your people to do the right thing.  A Board of Education does not get into the day-to-day running of a district.  That's why you hire quality people and trust the decisions they make.

What motivates you to want to become a school board member?

I have a personal interest in improving and preserving the quality of our school system. I believe in quality education for our current and future children/students. Serving on the school board is an honor, to be able to stand up, listen, and have something to say about our children’s education.

What particular experiences or skills have prepared you to serve as a board member?

As a nurse, I’ve learned to be a team player, and, most importantly, have developed empathy and am flexible. As a mom of 3 children in the district, I think I can ask the right questions and give clarity to other perspectives.

In what school district or community activities/organizations have you been involved?

I’ve been very active in working with and helping start a couple of youth programs in the district. I have been part of the Elementary School PTA. Having a spouse who coaches in the district, I’m active and attend many local school events and games.
